• Ethereal vocals over gritty low-end
• Dubstep backbone with clear Drum and Bass DNA
• Dark atmosphere without going full horror mode
“Memories” from Oddentrix caught my attention almost immediately, and not because it tries to be loud or shocking. Quite the opposite, actually. This track takes its time. It sits in that uncomfortable space between calm and tension, and that balance is what makes it work so well.
At its core, this is a dubstep tune, but the Drum and Bass influence is impossible to miss. The bassline has this slow, constant grit to it, wobbling and hitting from the background rather than dominating everything upfront. It feels controlled. Heavy, but patient. The atmosphere stays dark throughout, yet it never leans too hard into horror tropes or over-the-top sound effects. There is restraint here, and I appreciate that a lot.
The vocals deserve a special mention. They are ethereal, slightly distant, and fit the mood perfectly. In the breakdown, they almost dance around the beat, slowly evolving while small details keep getting added layer by layer. That section is probably my favorite part of the track. It feels calm on the surface, but there is always something brewing underneath.
When the drop finally hits, it does not explode. Instead, it creeps in. The gritty bassline takes the lead, alternating between more aggressive moments and sections that pull things back again. That push and pull keeps the track interesting all the way through. Nothing overstays its welcome, and nothing feels out of place.
Overall, “Memories” feels like a very balanced composition. Dark, but not exhausting. Heavy, but still atmospheric. Oddentrix clearly knows how to build tension without relying on cheap tricks. If this is a glimpse into his darker side, I am definitely curious to hear what else he has been holding back.
