“Yoritomo”: an energetic trance experiment that blends East and West

• Japanese guitar instead of the usual techno lead
• Psytrance foundation with hardgroove flavor
• Sweet vocal loop crushed by heavy basslines

I’ve got to say, Fvck Error surprised me big time with “Yoritomo”.

This is not your regular psytrance tune.

Right from the start, there’s a beautiful vocal loop floating on top, almost hypnotic, and then out of nowhere comes this Japanese guitar line that takes the spotlight. It feels delicate at first, almost ceremonial, before getting torn apart by an aggressive wall of bass. That balance between softness and brutality is exactly what makes the track addictive.

The artist himself calls it “energetic trance hardgroove” which kind of works, but I’d argue there’s a much heavier psy influence here. The bass is thick, pulsating, and constantly morphing with distortion. The kick digs deep into the mix, and layered over it are these quirky percussive hits that almost sound like taiko drums reimagined for the dancefloor. Honestly, it’s refreshing to hear someone refuse to stick to a single box.

What I really loved were the small tricks hidden inside the arrangement. The guitar phrases get filtered and stretched in places, sometimes bending in pitch as if they’re dissolving. Then, just when you think the track will settle into predictable psy-trance repetition, the groove switches gear. There are tiny gaps of silence before the drops that make the next hit twice as hard. Smart move.

“Yoritomo” is one of those tracks where the duality keeps pulling you in. The softness of the Japanese elements against the harshness of the bassline creates constant tension. It’s fast, it’s relentless, yet it never loses that melodic identity. I went in expecting a gimmick track and ended up looping it over and over.
