“Colorblind” is definitely not a word I’d use to describe this EP. It’s full of color, enthusiasm, a blend of genres, and a clear desire to do something new. “Echoes” really hit me emotionally, packing an explosive mix of sounds into one cohesive experience.
The artist behind it, CLRBLND, first showed up on the radar 2 years ago with “Falling Back,” then followed it up with a strong EP called “SQUARE ONE“. His style is all over the map in the best way. He’s not just a producer, but also a guitarist and singer, which makes the songs feel well-rounded. That full involvement gives the music a kind of unity you don’t often hear. Add in the heavy touch of experimental electronic, and we EDM Reviewers are all ears.
CLRBLND has a distinct sound, and “Echoes” really reflects that. It’s a mix of different styles, all held together with a light, thoughtful touch. The breakdowns are especially soft and detailed, while the rest of the tracks swing from the experimental, like the Hyperpop elements in “Haunt Me,” to old-school drum and bass in “Waiting.” Sure, it’s electronic, but it still feels very natural. Sometimes it’s a vocal sample, a guitar riff, a quick fill, or just the way a hi-hat hits. The whole EP feels genuine and carefully made. That’s what really stuck with me.
So what stood out most? Let’s see…
Haunt Me (with Keeni)
82/100
Keeni’s vocal is beautiful and adds a delicate touch on top of the looped vocal chops. Then, the transition into a Hyperpop vibe feels smooth and natural. As the first track on the EP, “Haunt Me” pulled me in right away. Toward the end, it gets darker with a distorted bass that sets the stage for the more intense songs that follow. The balance here is just right!
Always
83/100
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t quite follow the melody at first. I skipped it. But when I came back to finish the review, I started to appreciate how bold this track really is. The melody moves in an unusual way, the vocal sits quietly in the background, and the lead synth just kind of drilled its way into my brain. “Always” is a slow burn. Don’t rush it, just let it do its thing.
Give You (with TIM LOÇH)
88/100
Is that a Zonderling-style bassline? Because I loved it! “Give You” blends a great bass groove with soft vocal chops and then drops a bassline that feels both upbeat and chill. It might be the catchiest song on the EP and definitely has that summer night vibe. There’s a little future house influence here too, which adds to the EP’s colorful feel.
