A rare blend of spoken word, conscious lyrics, and EDM – a review of Suli Breaks’ “Synthetic Reflections” EP

March 22, 20252 min read

I have to admit, this EP really impressed me. It’s rare to find spoken word in EDM, let alone conscious lyrics and deep messages. But Suli Breaks delivers exactly that with “Synthetic Reflections“. This isn’t your typical club hit. It’s an intimate journey through sound and poetry.

The EP tells the story of Suli Breaks’ upbringing in London, blending minimal soundscapes with his stream-of-consciousness poetry. It’s raw, it’s personal, and it’s something entirely unique in today’s music scene.

Suli debuted in 2024 with the EP “Synthetic Heartbreak“, a collaboration with M4L4Y4. Later that year, he was featured on Faithless’ lead single “Find a Way” from their album “Champion Sound”. Now, with “Synthetic Reflections”, Suli shows clear evolution, especially on the technical side.

I’m no poetry expert, so I won’t dive too deep into the lyrical side. But the way Suli’s reflections blend with the music adds a magical touch. It’s fresh, it’s creative, and it’s exactly the kind of innovation that excites me.

My favorite track is “North London“, a homage to his hometown. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of growing up in North London, capturing the struggles of youth, the nostalgia, and the desire to chase dreams despite limitations. It’s heartfelt and beautifully crafted.

Then there’s “Correlations“, which alternates between touching vocals and a hard-hitting kick. The clash of vibes works surprisingly well, with hypnotic percussion adding depth. It’s the most “standard” EDM track on the EP, but Suli’s poetic interludes keep it grounded in creativity.

Finally, “Virus” hits hard on an emotional level. It reflects on the mental toll of the pandemic, and I found myself deeply connecting with Suli’s narrative. The beat is sad and nostalgic, perfectly complementing the intimate tone of the track.

Overall, “Synthetic Reflections” is an experimental EP that won’t be for everyone, but it’s something I highly recommend. It’s rare to find such unique ideas and touching lyrics in today’s music landscape. Suli Breaks has created something truly special here.
