Blending Modern and Retro Vibes – a review of Ekonovah’s “Vibrant” EP

May 26, 20244 min read

Today’s review features two standout tracks from Ekonovah’s EP: the title track “Vibrant” and the equally impressive “Best of Me.” Both tracks offer a unique listening experience, and their backstory is worth sharing.

Ekonovah himself has described the EP as a defining moment in his artistic journey. He explained,

“This EP defines my sound as an artist. Vibrant has been a staple in my sets for years and Best – I finished it back in 2021 and for 3+ years, labels have denied it over and over again. I finally decided to put it out and stop waiting for a label to see what I see in it. Around this time I was working on Best of Me, a 132bpm track and easily the highest tempo track I’d ever made! It was really exciting. I was sitting there looking at FL Studio and was thinking to myself ‘I’m gonna take a risk and put out Vibrant, here’s this new song at a BPM I’ve never worked on before, this is a risk too, let’s make it an EP.’ Making that decision felt really good, and I’m so glad I did because now these two tracks are out in the world! And, the cherry on top, I think they both sound perfect for the summer season. I just couldn’t be happier!”
EkonovahYou know, here at EDM Reviewer we have always been in support of the artists, especially the smaller ones, doing our best. Reading Ekonovah’s words of passion and perseverance is truly inspiring.

Ekonovah is having quite a year, debuting at Ultra Music Festival and releasing a slew of new music, including “Iris,” “Hit The Gas,” and “Sycamore,” each amassing hundreds of thousands of streams. His career is on an upward trajectory, with tour stops in cities like Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, and performances at festivals such as EDC LV, Decadence AZ, and Bonnaroo. He’s also shared stages with renowned artists like Chris Lake, Elderbrook, Tchami, Gorgon City, Oliver Heldens, Noizu, Dombresky, Habstrakt, Drezo, and Moksi.

Now, let’s dive into the EP. Starting with “Vibrant,” my personal favorite by a slight margin. This track is a Tech-y G-House composition featuring Ekonovah’s signature “woosh”/“weird flute” sound and jazzy influences in the breakdown. The inclusion of the sax adds an elegant touch, and the warm, cozy vocal pairs perfectly with the drop’s punchy impact. The horns are a delightful detail, enhancing the track’s dual vibes—Piano House’s jazzy twist on one side and the underground grit of Tech on the other. “Vibrant” is a unique party hit, refined over three years and a staple in Ekonovah’s sets.

Best of Me” takes a different path. This UK-inspired bass house track stands out as Ekonovah’s fastest release at 132 BPM. It features immaculate sound design, catchy vocals, and irresistible drums, delivering that classic Ekonovah groove. The track exudes an aggressive, disruptive energy, signaling a new rhythmic direction while maintaining a hint of vintage charm reminiscent of “Show Me Love.”

Ekonovah’s ability to blend modern and retro vibes makes “Vibrant” a concentrate of emotions. Both tracks showcase his versatility and creativity, making this EP a must-listen for fans of innovative electronic music. Keep an eye on Ekonovah—this artist is clearly on the rise.
