When I say astronomical proportions, I’m not exaggerating! Edictum’s “Cosmic Scale” takes you on a big adventure across the solar system. Each track represents a different planet (or cosmic item), capturing its essence through sound. The idea is ambitious, and the execution mostly lives up to it. If you’re into music that paints vivid pictures and tells a story, this album is worth your time.
The album’s strength lies in how it reflects the unique character of each planet. There is an arsenal of different vibes, shapes and sounds that really make the journey unforgettable! Not every track on “Cosmic Scale” hits the same mark, though. “Neptune, The Mystic” doesn’t quite hold up compared to the others. The track captures Neptune’s cold, distant vibe well, but it drags on too long. I found it slightly ethereal, it doesn’t develop much over time, which makes it feel repetitive. While it sets a mood, it doesn’t grab your attention in the way other tracks do.
That said, the album offers plenty of strong moments. It’s not all calm and atmospheric, there are tracks that are vibrant and full of energy too. The balance between different moods and paces keeps the album interesting from start to finish. Each song offers something a little different, but they all feel like they belong to the same story.
Here are my favourite tracks:
Gaia, The Bringer of Life
90/100
This track is the highlight of the album. It builds slowly, but the way it grows is just right. It starts small and quiet, almost fragile, and builds slowly into something much larger. It feels like you’re watching life take shape, starting small and fragile before blossoming into something powerful. The orchestration is rich, and the crescendo is satisfying. It’s a track that feels big and full of meaning.
Solar Flares
85/100
“Solar Flares” is a high-energy track that stands out for its intensity. It starts off calm but quickly explodes into a full-blown experience. The contrasts between the quiet and the loud are striking. The track captures the chaotic, powerful nature of the sun in a way that’s exciting and engaging. It doesn’t waste time: once it gets going, it pulls you in.
Venus, The Bringer of Peace
82/100
After the intensity of “Solar Flares“, “Venus” offers a calming break. It’s a soothing track with a peaceful, almost nostalgic feel. The music is gentle but never weak. It gives you a moment to relax, reflecting the tranquil energy of Venus. While it doesn’t have the same dramatic highs as some of the other tracks, it’s a nice, balanced piece that offers a change of pace.
Overall, “Cosmic Scale” is an album worth listening to. It does a good job of turning the vastness of space into something personal and tangible through music. Not every track is perfect, but the album is solid overall. If you enjoy music that paints pictures and evokes strong imagery, this is definitely one to check out. It’s a quiet, thoughtful journey through the solar system, and it’s a journey that’s worth taking.
