Weekly Roundup XII (Diamonds Edition)

October 19, 20214 min read

The week of ADE is upon us, and despite the concerns of it getting postponed, multiple events are happening. With a hectic schedule heading for the DJs after their long hiatuses, this weekend has also found itself packed with a myriad of releases from Jaxx & Vega, Martin Garrix, KSHMR and more. Let’s get into the 12th edition of the Weekly Roundup, shall we?

Firebeatz – Resurrect
75/100

The Dutch duo have put out records stranger to their usual discography recently, but “Resurrect” is perhaps a step in the right direction.

Featured on their label Ignite Recordings (remember that?), this Electro House tune reminded me of early 2010s, a signature Firebeatz always keeps in handy. Bright and sharp supersaws assist the groove, with a minimal and simpler breakdown to induce tension. Although it might sound a tad repetitive in these times, anything’s better than formulaic work.

Martin Garrix, Julian Jordan, Tinie Tempah – Diamonds
84/100

The “BFAM” pair have synergized again after a while, teaming-up with British sensation Tinie Tempah, and the outcome couldn’t be any less explosive.

“Diamonds” is a testament to how both Garrix and Jordans’ trademarks have evolved over time, yet they held over their playful studio chemistry. This Bass House track starts over with a hyping Hip-hop flow thanks to Tempah, supplemented with a distorted synth-riff of a drop. Although Julian Jordan seems to have more influence here, this reputed collaboration doesn’t hold back.

Jaxx And Vega – Diamonds
81/100

Someone else was also busy making “Diamonds”, and it was none other than the Big Room act Jaxx & Vega.

If you are itching for that old-school Smash The House type stuff, this is it. Reminding me of Blasterjaxx, the driving instrumental brings in textbook but nevertheless enjoyable set of sounds well-recognized in the genre: the massive supersaws, trance-y breakdown and such. Not a combination most fans would refuse, as it’s proven effective enough.

KSHMR – Over You (ft. Lovespeake)
70/100

The American veteran DJ/Producer has understood the recent royalties hack, and has resorted to Slap House.

“Over You” with the vocalist Lovespeake is a decent attempt however, with a cadence that would please most. There’s Gigi D’Agostino inspiration resonating in the drop section, so not entirely insipid. Certainly not the most creative output.

Loudtech – Play The Game
78/100

Brazilian up and coming name Loudtech has intrigued me with his new release, which is now up on Hexagon’s sub-imprint Generatiox Hex.

“Play The Game” sticks to the essential house materials, but the teasing and rhythmic filthy bass synth goes hard along with the gritty percussions. Minimalism and groove-focused style at display here!

Calcium – Let You Know
80/100

Calcium deficient lately?

Well, this Texas based wobble-maker will fix that issue with his trippy and liquid mixture of Dubstep, accentuated with pounding snares and heightened low-end. “Let You Know” is your fix for self-headbanging sesh this week, with adept sound-selection and intense schematics.
