• Melancholic melody… but more than asked?
• Redeems Smash’s sub-label
After what seems like a long six months, I decided to explore Progressive House again, a saturated sector on which I have partial thoughts for but still manages to surprise me from time to time. Talking about it, we are reviewing unexpectedly Smash release, knowing our views on the label and its owners. Anyways, Michael Morikito’s debut “I’ll Be Waiting for You” premiered in the imprint (it is his first official release under the alias as well) this week, and it’s worth discussing.
The melancholic composition that Monikito has unveiled is glamorous along with vibrant presence of the vocal from Kat. Although, said emotion and tone is well-scattered over the track to not make it mundane. The build-up is heavily influenced from the likes of Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman, with a dash of Tropical House. This provides for a pleasant drop experience which I anticipated to be heavier and intense, and at this point, the heart-warming sentiments start becoming somewhat repetitive noticeably.
Following segment of the song is even more wistful than the preceding, with a twist that the instrumental introduces elements that elevates the heartfelt mood, accompanied by a catchier riff that reminded of another one. The second riser is way refined than the first, alternating its pattern and becoming more alluring than thought for. Thus, the climactic round ends as a cocktail of distinct vibes that the Russian producer intended to embed in this work.
A surprising refreshment from Monikito and Nestel is an elegant potpourri, even if there is the usual standardized arrangements in the record. Generation Smash is certainly picking up the pace with really interesting results!
