• Minimalistic yet effective breakdown
• Astonishing melody: my favorite element
• Excellent performance from Robbie Rosen
Thinking closely about it, I guess this will be my third or fourth review in a row of a Progressive House track. You know what? I don’t care. Progressive house was, is and will always be my favourite genre, and as long as there are still new progressive songs that catch my attention the other genres will take a back seat. Steyyx really surprised me with his latest creation together with Robbie Rosen, “Somebody Loves You”, so I’ll try to get a brief analysis that I hope will be as good as the tune.
I started to love the concept since the first second. An uncommon short intro consisting of a piano solo welcomes us into the break, followed after the first bars by Robbie Rosen’s excellent vocal. As an experienced piano player, I have to give Steyyx my 10 points here. His break approach is solid an entertaining without falling into the trap of adding too many elements, especially because in most cases those elements are just some loops and samples that we’ve already heard in lots of similar songs.
The drop and the atmosphere lovely, these are my first thoughts about the section. The melody is beautiful, really powerful, while the lead is wide and emotional. Another important thing in progressive is the relationship between the kick and the bass, and Steyxx solved the problem successfully opting for a short kick and a barely noticeable sidechain on the bass, creating an awesome movement that makes the drop fluid and prompt. The overall instrumentation reminded me a bit of Matisse & Sadko, I think that the producer took some inspiration from them to create the drop of “Somebody Loves You”.
I don’t have much more to add this time, I just want to emphasize how much I liked “Somebody Loves You”, for me it’s definitely one of the best songs of its genre of the last weeks. I really encourage you to follow Steyyx, a new discovery for me who has a promising future!
