Tiesto – I Like It Loud EP

April 5, 20186 min read

2018 is the year of comebacks. Swedish House Mafia, Headhunterz and even Steve Aoki with his series #5OKI. Now it was the turn of the legend Tiesto.

Well, this was rather predictable. His label Musical Freedom kept impressing us with splendid releases and important names, and his Clublife Vol. 5 was already full of interesting music for us (despite not being a “real EP”, but more of a compilation of songs by the Dutch producer and other collaborators). However, we needed a final confirmation about Tiësto bringing back his big room golden touch, and we received that through “I Like It Loud EP”. Just 4 tracks, 4 splendid collaborations with some of the freshest talents around, and some old friends.

This EP is the highest rated EP on an average by us. Two 90+ songs over four, a record.

That doesn’t mean that it is the best EP of the year, of course, because we rarely review albums, but we truly enjoyed every tune included and we must congratulate the Godfather of EDM for this new, fantastic surprise.

4. Tiesto & Mesto – Coming Home

73\100

Mesto is actually one of the most talented names in the future bounce scene, and we are glad to see him on Musical Freedom! “Coming Home” is a good collaboration, presenting Mesto’s typical vibes together with Tiesto’s more aggressive approach, but we felt it had nothing more to offer compared to the other tunes. The kick is surprisingly aggressive with some big room and progressive influences (in the melody). but the structure doesn’t really catch our total attention. The vocal is elegant, even though it gets a bit monotonous after a while.
Well, splendid quality as expected, but a standard song for Mesto and Tiesto’s high standards.

Tiesto & Matisse & Sadko – Dawnbreaker

83\100

“Dawnbreaker” has only one weakness for us, the track lacked detailing which made it sound rather similar to other M&S releases. It is, however, a magnificent collaboration, Matisse & Sadko are definitely on fire in the progressive house scene lately. The drop reminds a bit of Tiesto’s old hit “Paradise”, heavily influenced by M&S melodic style (lead, melody, and buildup). We didn’t like the percussion there, original and creative but a bit too dispersive. They added that “epic” cinematic feeling to “Dawnbreaker”, it’s easy to notice it in the break, a splendid orchestral structure, but we must be critical in this review, explaining every detail. In conclusion, this is another good song, that didn’t completely shine for us only because the quality level we expect doesn’t permit any single con.

Tiesto & MOTi – Break The House Down

90\100

Speaking of comebacks, another huge name here is MOTi! The Dutch released a lot of tunes on MF, and even collaborated with Tiesto twice back in the days, with “Blow Your Mind” and “Back To The Acid“. The third song together is what definitely amazed us, because of its intriguing mood, the insane drop, and the splendid MOTi vibes finally back in the place where they can really hurt (for us): Big Room.

Simple formula, destructive result. The mysterious vocal, together with an interesting frenetic ethnic mood, makes up for a terrific and a catchy break. The drop is simply one of the best we’ve heard in 2018. It’s not particularly complex, but that reverb, that melody, the MOTi lead, the incredible talent of Tiesto. Spectacular, a total party rocker. Astonishing collab, the best of the three (and “Blow Your Mind” was extremely appreciated in its time by the way!).

1. Tiësto & John Christian – I Like It Loud (ft. Marshall Masters & The Ultimate MC)

91\100

The title track is also our personal favourite, because of instinct. Yes, instinct.
Sometimes, when listening to music, your mind “recognizes” a potential masterpiece. This is a song that makes your blood chill, gives you goosebumps and makes you think that “I will listen to it in the coming years, together with millions of other fans”.

“I Like It Loud” is a masterpiece of Marshall Master & The Ultimate MC, even if most of the people love the Scooter version. However, we are in 2018, and with us, there is the Legend Tiësto and one of the most underrated producers ever, John Christian.

The result is a festival hit with the legendary chorus (with the lead slightly improved making it more “actual”), and a tremendous drop. John Christian added his special touch, creating a complex structure with Bounce, Electro House, and Big Room influences. It’s difficult to explain why we love it so much, but it’s because of the general result. A lot of elements together, balancing each other, creating an explosion of flavors, sounds, and pure energy. Few producers in the scene can make such drops and still keep the tune dynamic and lightweight enough.

Difficult to truly appreciate, but “I Like It Loud” will be remembered as a gorgeous hit.
